We often discuss correspondence as an optimal way to forge and nurture connections with friends and strangers alike, but what if you long to send a letter to someone who can't be reached? There are times in life when communication is impossible or too difficult to attempt, either because an important person in our lives has passed away or a relationship is fraught. Or, perhaps we had a fleeting encounter with a person who vanished back into the universe, and we have no way to find them. In this creative writing workshop, Rosemary Crawford and Laura Capp will guide us in exploring the power of writing letters meant to go unsent. We can burn them. We can bury them. We can seal them up and stow them away in the back of a desk drawer. But these letters will not go in search of their addressee. Why write them at all? Rosemary--therapist, educator, and artist--and Laura--writer, artist, and shop owner--will guide us through the benefits of cathartic letter-writing, and we will have space to begin drafting one of our own.

There will be time for discussion, but as we will be working with potentially sensitive material, students are welcome to participate however they are comfortable. Sharing and speaking are not remotely required. Students will receive an email upon registration with reading materials we are invited to read in advance and will want to come to the workshop with a person in mind to whom they'd like to write an unsent letter.
